January Gallery Update

Beijing:

The C-Space in Beijing is focused on cutting edge artworks from contemporary European and Chinese artists including Catalin Petrisor and Aaron van Erp.

The Qiqiannian Art Center (QAC) in Beijing is mainly showing Chinese contemporary lacquer works by Mr. Huang Zhongqi.

Berlin:

Nature Morte Gallery opens their second exhibition, Thukral & Tagra in their new gallery space in Berlin. The exhibition will run from January 10 through February 14.

Cologne:

Luis Campaña Gallery located in Cologne will open a second gallery space in Berlin end of January. Campaña is an Art Basel participant.

Edinburgh:

Rachel Whiteread is the second artist to create a billboard image for the Ingleby Gallery’s exciting public art project. Whiteread's image takes inspiration from her recent installation Place at the Hayward Gallery London. The billboard is accompanied by an original limited edition print by each artist relating to the billboard work.

London:

Alastair Mackie is having his first solo exhibition in London since 2005 at the David Roberts Foundation from January 16th through March 28th.

The new Isis Gallery recently opened by John Marchant is holding the first solo exhibition of Antony Hegarty of the Mercury Prize winning group Antony and the Johnsons.

An exhibition of the Canadian artist, Jon Pylypchuk, opened at Alison Jacques Gallery on the January 8. This show coincides with Jon Pylypchuk’s first European solo survey show at the Städtische Ausstellungshalle, Münster (February 6 – May 3) ahead of his USA solo show at the Blaffer Gallery, The Art Museum of the University of Houston in September 2009.

Ruth Root opens her solo exhibition of new paintings at Maureen Paley from January 15 through February 22.

Imago Art Gallery has an opening ‘One Century of Italian Art 1906-2008’ from January 29 through March 28.

TAG Fine Arts will be exhibiting for the first time at Art London. They bring Adam Bridgland- his first solo show in London, and Victoria Hall who has been chosen to exhibit her ‘Predis Series’ 2008 in Photo 50.

Los Angeles:

Dave Muller has an exhibition from February 21 - March 28 at Blum and Poe. They are also preparing to expand into an enormous warehouse building in Culver City later this spring.

There is an installation show at Otero Plassart Gallery featuring Franz Ackermann, Richard Jackson and Johannes Wohnseifer.

New York:

Yvon Lambert Gallery in Chelsea will host RB 62-08, an exhibition of works made from 1962 through 2008 by the American conceptualist and minimalist artist Robert Barry. RB 62-08 will include a new major floor piece, several wall text pieces, and paintings and will be on view through February 7.

Priska C. Juschka Fine Art in Chelsea will be showing new works by Iranian artist Nicky Nodjoumi February 19 through March 28. Reception for the artist will be on Thursday, February 19 from 6:00 - 9:00pm.

J. Cacciola Gallery has expanded to a new Chelsea location on West 27th Street. In February, the new space will host a group show featuring the works of James Lahey.

Now through February 28th, Nathan A. Bernstein Co. Ltd. is featuring an exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Political Pop Art. The exhibition brings together some of the most controversial art works by the leading Chinese Avant Garde artists of the 20th century, and includes paintings and sculptures that have rarely been seen by the public.

Palm Desert:

Heather James Gallery in a beautifully renovated new space is currently featuring works by Yves Klein, Robert Motherwell, Andy Warhol, Roberto Matta, Amedeo Modigliani and more.

Paris:

There is group exhibition, "Influence Pop," from Feb 6–March 28 at Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont featuring Jeff Koons, David Mach, Pierre & Gilles, Bettina Rheims, Benjamin Sabatier, and McDermott & McGough.

From January 14 – February 14, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac is featuring an exhibition by American artist Alex Katz. The exhibition will include recent works that focus on fashion, one of the recurring themes in his oeuvre.


San Francisco:

Hackett-Freedman Gallery will be featuring work by Ernest Briggs, Howard Hodgkin, Masatoyo Kishi, Frank Lobdell, Conrad Marca-Relli, Manolo Millares, Robert Motherwell, Manuel Neri, Kenzo Okada, Kay Sekimachi, Emilio Vedova, and others in Synchronies - Undercurrents in European and American Postwar Abstraction, now through February 28.
